week in a flash (week 17)

1. It’s that time of year again, September 21st is Alzheimer’s Awareness day or World Alzheimer’s day (whichever) don’t forget to wear purple.

2. Days to graduation = 61

3. I adore Ann Bradstreet.

4. Do our souls have gender?  If not then what decides gender?  Is it simply a matter of biology, our body chemistry?  Or is it something within the mind that tells us if we are female or male?  I mean I know that our bodies give us the form but what makes one person exhibit male-typical behaviors and another person exhibit female-typical behaviors?

5. Finished LeMay’s book The Searchers…interesting.  I get to watch Ford’s film by the same name based on the book this Tuesday; I’m looking forward to it.

6. Made chocolate-chip cookies for myself, man there is nothing like the smell of fresh-baked cookies, yum!  Be jealous, very jealous  :D

7. Listened to Linkin Park’s new album A Thousand Suns, it is so…cinematic.  I love it.  Now I am aware that some of the people who read my blog either don’t care about LP’s new album, don’t know who LP is or don’t like them but since this is my blog I am going to talk about it, besides I know of at least one person who cares.  Sooo…LP’s new album is intriguing.  It builds from song one until the very last one and Mike’s rapping on this one is epic – he doesn’t rap on a lot of songs but the ones he does are amazing and gritty.  And Chester’s singing…in a word?  Beautiful, he does the expected screaming style that he is known for but he also softens it on several songs and it’s just awesome.  The whole album is so raw, gritty and cinematic that it’s amazing.  (It’s true that there isn’t a lot of guitar work on the album but the drum, bass and turntable work is just awesome).

8. Got flavored creamer for my coffee, it’s Caramel Macchiato and it’s delicious!

9. I’ve been seeing the previews for M. Night Shymalan’s new movie Devil…yeah I think I’ll wait until that one comes out on DVD, maybe.  I don’t know if I want to see this one it looks about as terrifying as The Happening was (I’ve watched it once since I bought it on DVD) plus I’m not sure I’m comfortable with the premise of the movie overall.

10. I’ve had a bunch of serial dreams lately, you know like episodes of TV?  Except they’ve been all in one night so it’s like watching TV episodes without having to wait a week between episodes, it’s cool even if I don’t remember them clearly.  Anyone else ever have dreams like that?

11. Also has anyone ever had dreams that start in the middle of the action and it’s like you know something came before the start of the dream but you don’t get to see it?  In literature we call it in media res, Homer’s Odyssey and Shakespeare’s Hamlet both start in media res so if you’ve ever had a dream like that you are in good company  ;)

12. Nails are dark purple this week in preparation for the 21st, World Alzheimer’s/Alzheimer’s Awareness day.

1. I watched two awesome movies this week.  One was awesomely good (btw if you ever want to hear Kate Hudson sing, rent Nine, it rocks!) and the other was awesomely bad, I knew it would be that’s why I rented it. :D

2. Have you ever had moments when you felt wise beyond your years and then had moments where you felt extremely immature?

3. A few years back I started doing this thing where I say to myself “I love my life, I love my life, I love my life,” I started doing it because I noticed than as soon as I started focusing on how everything was going wrong it was easy to fall into a depressive, dark way of thinking where I would start saying things to myself like “I hate my life” and other such things that I won’t deign to put in print ’cause they don’t belong in my head.  I don’t say “I love my life, I love my life, I love my life” to try to erase anything that might be going wrong or anything that’s hurtful to me or to convince myself that things will get better; it’s just a way to remind myself that I’ve got a reason to live and that HE’s always with me.  Sooo…I love my life, I love my life, I love my life.

4. My bro may disown me for saying this but the Twilight saga has got some great characters…too bad they are stuck in one of the worst stories ever written.

5. With regards to a week two comment I made about people, I also want to say that people can also be amazingly compassionate and just plain nice.

6. My summer class starts in a few weeks.  I’m a little nervous.

7.Would you hate me if I said that I actually like Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland and absolutely hate the book?

8. Two of the best sounds in my world at the moment – the crack of thunder, just the way it rumbles and rolls across the sky and how everything trembles and shakes when it’s really loud – in my opinion there is nothing more breathtaking, terrifying and beautiful all at the same time, love it!  And the sound Jack (my Jeep) makes when it accelerates, the raw horsepower and the strength is thrilling.  Granted Jack doesn’t corner like it’s in the Indy 500 the way Baby (my Honda) did but I love ‘im anyway.  (Yes I name my cars, get over it :D)

9. Happy Father’s Day mi padre! (and all the other wonderful fathers out there)

10. Even though you are underway right now and probably won’t see this for a few more weeks, Hippo Birdies bro!!
